DATA CAREERS, DEMYSTIFIED — KICKOFF EVENT

Jump to Section:

Is a Data Career Right for You?

Data careers are growing across Alberta. The roles are changing, the demand is real, and most people have more relevant experience than they think. This session is designed to show you exactly where you stand.

Join us on May 19 for the launch of Unlocking Data Careers — a free, public information session with practitioners who have spent careers working with data across energy, technology, and financial services. Attend in person in Calgary or join us online.

No prerequisites. No pitch. Just an honest conversation about what data careers actually look like and what it takes to get in.

What to Expect

This is a free, no-pressure session. You’ll hear directly from practitioners who work in data roles across Alberta and beyond — what the field looks like day to day, who’s hiring, and what a strong candidate actually looks like.

The session runs 60–70 minutes and includes open Q&A. Come with questions.

At the end you’ll have a clear picture of whether Unlocking Data Careers is the right next step for you — and what enrolling looks like if it is.

Speakers

Trudy Curtis

Chief Executive Officer, PPDM Association

Four decades building the global community of practice around energy data management. An internationally recognized voice on data as a strategic asset.

Paul Thompson

General Manager, Petrosys Group

20+ years working across subsurface data, technology, and business in the energy sector. He brings a practical, on-the-ground perspective on what data careers actually look like — and how people from non-traditional backgrounds find their way in.

Nabil Salameh

Former Director, S&P Global

Started as a drilling engineer in the field. Ended up leading data transformation across North America for IHS Markit and S&P Global. His path from wellsite to data director is exactly the kind of story this program exists to make more common.

Part of a Series

This is the kickoff for Data Careers, Demystified — six free sessions running May through July 2026 across Alberta covering data literacy, the Alberta job market, data governance, data management, and what practitioners actually do day to day.

Register for the kickoff and you’re in for the full series.
